One punch man – Personal thoughts

After many years when my son has grown big enough to step into the world of anime I had no choice but to keep up. And I chose to start my journey of anime with this series called One Punch Man, on Netflix India.

So, here I am with my thoughts after watching the two seasons of the series of my first ever Japanese anime.

Language

I have always thought the language to be a challenge and have always questioned how one can watch a full series where I do not understand the language at all and completely rely on English subtitles. Oh! I was so wrong. Just into the second episode and the experience was so seamless. The subtitles so naturally blend with the flow of the motion picture that I often forgot the language aspect.

Story and concept

I did not find the story to be too unusual. It’s almost a normal plot for me where there is a region with multiple heroes and they team up to battle out the bad guys. The ranking system amongst the heroes is also not new to me. I have seen some other series where such divisions exist.

But the concept is mind blowing. A hero who is so powerful and unmatched by any that he gets bored of his own abilities and longs to experience a real challenge. This is complimented by the blank look in his eyes. Not only he is fun to watch also super fun to comprehend.

Characters

There are many believable and memorable characters like Genos, King, Bang etc but the ones I truly enjoyed watching were Puri Puri Prisoner and Mumen Rider. While one is rich bag of laughter the other has a strong sense of duty. Both of these characters were super fun to watch.

Recommendation

I would highly recommend this series to those who wish to start with Japanese anime. It’s quite fun to watch and the story also isn’t complex to understand.

Rating

I don’t think I am qualified to rate the series, yet. I am going to watch more Japanese Anime and then maybe revisit this post to give a suitable rating.
