Is boosting a Discord server for just a month Cruel?
I was introduced to Discord by my friend Arsh (DevilOmaxe). He told me that discord was just like a Facebook for Gamers and that creating a server or an instance was free as opposite to TeamSpeak where it cost money to create a server.
Upon installing Discord, I created a server for myself. I believe my discord has had many names, I think the first name I gave it was “SteveZDad”. This was before when I was into Facebook gaming. So, you all would know from my previous article I had a sad habit of showing off and a perfect example for me was to get my Discord server boosted to level so that I could have that “Vanity URL” and I wanted this: “discord.gg/stevezdad”. Normally this is available to partners with Discord or I to the verified communities as well. But I wanted it, so I boosted it and I got it!
But realization happened and I figured out that having a discord server wasn’t my priority anymore. So I shut it down. Baaaaaaa. I was left with 30 purchased boosts. What on earth was a I suppose to do with them????
First time in my life a thought came to me to use those boosts to boost up other people’s servers and that is exactly what I did. I boosted a lot of servers.
And then I upset myself really really bad.
Me boosting the server for people out of the way gave those communities perks and advantages like Server banner or high quality screen sharing or emotes or higher audio quality in voice channels etc…
Everyone who’s server I boosted was happy and they thanked me for it. I enjoyed the moment by watching the communities put their server banners up or creating high quality channels and having a cool time with it. Unfortunately at the end of the boost period I did not continue any boosts except for a the two boosts that comes with the Nitro.
Here is the sad part. After the end the boosts some communities went back to the status they were in. What I mean is no banners or high quality screen sharing or other stuff was there to use. So many of those communities owners bought Nitros to get their communities to at least level 2 so that they could get the very basic perk.
I felt bad because my actions had encouraged people to spend money which I think in my opinion they would not have done otherwise.
It felt cruel on my part to have caused a start of potential habit which otherwise didn’t exist. I may be overthinking this but I did take it as a burden on me.
At this point I have confused myself and find myself at a crossroads where I can’t actually figure out if my actions were okay or not.
I would really want to ask my readers to share their opinion about this action. Maybe I am just over reacting or maybe I did something that was actually cruel or maybe I just aided in marketing/promotion for Discord. In all cases it feels like a burden on my heart and I don’t think I will be doing this in the near future!
Do tell me!
I can understand that once people who’re in the ‘free’ tier if they taste the ‘premium’ stuff might get used to it. But you do not need to feel sad about it.
You just did something that you felt like doing, you were happy for it.
Also you were in their server which would mean that you were a part of it, so just consider it to be like you’re giving back to them or something.
Also it has been done already and over, so no use of thinking about it and feeling bad.
It could also be that they might have wanted the nitro boost for their server but weren’t sure if it was a worth investment. After you boosted their server they might have seen the benefits / use and decided to continue it.
On the contrary(I feel bad for putting this out but just sharing another perspective) I think you might be feeling like some peddler who has given them a taste of something illegal & now they’re addicted to it.
If that is the case then you should have thought of it before doing it but since its all done you just need to get over it.
