General Description:
Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival in which married women traditionally observe a day-long fast for the health, prosperity, and long life of their husbands. The fast is broken after moonrise, following prayers and rituals, often with family celebrations and festive attire.
Steps for the Groom:
- Let the bride do this.
- Support her through the day and be with her during the Moon Ritual.
- Be with your wife.
Steps for the Bride:
- Wake up at about 3:30 or 4:00 am
- No bathing, just the brushing, stay in night clothing
- Make Sargi (pronounce as: Sir Gee), ingredients: Phenian (sweet noodles), Raw Coconut, Fruit, Sweets, Mithi Chuuri (made of roti, shakkar and ghee) and Tea/Coffee/Water.
- Take out a portion of everything except Tea/coffee in the name of Karva Chauth Mata Thali. Add money to it to offer to Mata. Set this thali aside with care and love.
- Now eat the Sargi.
- Can take any medicine also, If needed.
- When eating Sargi, do not move from the chair before finishing it. Strictly no movement.
- Sargi must be eaten before sunrise.
- Clear up the table.
- Can sleep if you want.
- Wake up or start day as normal.
- Shower and ready up.
- Dress up in new clothing for Karva Chauth.
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING till 12:00 pm
- After 12:00 pm, perform the Ritual of Karva Minsana.
- perform Katha (only after Minsana)
Step of Karva Minsana as follows:
Firstly acquire the pot like shown in the image below.

Katha as follows:
- Drink 1 glass of water and tea after listening to Katha
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything till Moon Rise
- At moon rise, perform the Moon Ritual
Moon Ritual as follows:
Step 1: Prepare a Thali
Take a steel Thaali and assort following in it
- 3 -4 types of sweets
- Matthi (general)
- 1 Matthi with a hole in it
- A glass full of water
- Anything else you want to include to eat
- Strictly NO NON VEG item.
Step 2: Setup Garvi from Katha
- Add water to Garvi
- Take rice from the knot we made earlier and add to Garvi
Step 3: Offer Water to Moon along with the chant
- Dip fingers in the Garvi
- Then rotate the Garvi in clockwise direction and say the chat once.
- When the chat finishes offer some water to the moon
- Repeat the process in total of SEVEN times.
- After the seventh chant, offer all of the water and rice to the moon.
The Chant:
Seonian Per Seonian, Seonian Parivaar,
Baala Chaanda Aark de, Jeh Lohde Ghar Vaar,
Suhaagan, Bhaagan, Chuwaare Chaari, Arg Dain.
Step 4: Honor the husband
- Make husband face you so that the Moon is at the 90 degree to both of you towards your LEFT, husband’s right side.
- Take the Matthi with a hole and look at the Moon through it
- Then look at the Husband after looking at the Moon.
Step 5: Accept Water and food from Husband
- Accept some sips from the glass of husband via the glass of water.
- Accept food items from Thali
- Touch the feet of the husband to receive a blessing
- Proceed for Dinner
